To keep the peppers fruiting until the frost, you need to take good care of them. You can make the fruiting period longer for greenhouse crops, but only if you follow some rules.
First of all, you need to give the peppers the right temperature and humidity in the greenhouse. They like it when it is +25-30°C and up to 75% humidity. The second important thing for long fruiting is plenty of water at the right time. You should water the plants when the soil starts to dry out (up to 3 liters for each plant). After watering, you need to air out the greenhouse to remove the extra moisture. You should only water the peppers at the base and with warm water.
Every now and then, you need to thin out the plants, cut off damaged branches, leaves and extra flowers. This will help send more nutrients to other parts of the plant and lower the chance of fungal diseases. You should also remember to harvest on time. Otherwise, new flowers won’t grow. When you harvest, you should not pull the fruits with your hands, but gently cut them off the plant with garden scissors or something like that.
In August, peppers need a lot of potassium and phosphorus, but too much nitrogen in the soil will hurt the fruiting process. You should feed the peppers in the evening and not more than once a week. Before you put the fertilizer under the plant, you need to water it well with warm water.
Breaking up the soil will also help the air flow better in the greenhouse and make the peppers happier. When you do this, you can also add a little bit of wood ash as a fertilizer.
